Mission Statement

My favorite thing about being a barista is the deviously interesting premise behind the craft. In my own words, I like to explain the infinity of potential like this.

Isolate and control the variables to achieve the desired outcome.

There are always variables, you'll never run out of them. The outcome is as nuanced as you care to make it. The more specific the desired outcome is, the more variables you create and have to balance. It is an oversimplification of literally everything that goes into making a cup of coffee, but the idea behind it is what makes being a barista a huge part of my identity.

This approach is the filter I use to find solutions to all of the problems in my life. I like to work backwards from visualizing the best outcome to working out the details I would need to get there.

So let me tell you about the outcome first, the dream I have in its simplest form. We can work backwards from there.

By making coffee and sharing my love of it with other people, I can do something worthwhile and massively positive for people. I can create the most giving form of what I want my life to be like, and never have to hold back.

That's the whole outcome. All I want in this entire world.

The biggest obstacle to getting to that point is the cash register, believe it or not. Nowhere in that objective does it say I want to make sales, or even money for that matter. I don't even like selling things and it's never what I wanted to do. Looking at it closer, sales actually get in the way of what I want to accomplish. It creates more variables, more obstacles, and gets me further away from my goal.

I want to be the answer to a faceted set of problems most of us have in common. The pandemic has left people feeling lonely, stuck in rote or routine, and wondering if things will ever change. In the isolation and repetition, most of our experience and stimulation have become vicarious. It is how we have come to accept that this is just the way things are going to be for a while.

And that's where my mobile barista service comes in. Tucked away right there in your neighborhood, or just off the beaten path somewhere you pass all the time but never stop, you find something beautiful and unexpected. My coffee tent.

It's full of incredible coffee gadgets you've never heard of. The menu has tons of unique specialties and is easy to understand. You have a stimulating conversation as the barista helps you pick something out and gushes about the story behind it while making your drink in a way you have never seen it done before.

You can offer to pay, but I won't let you. Nothing here is for sale.

And just like that, it changes the dynamic of your day. You didn't have a transaction. You had a positive experience. It's a gorgeous day, maybe you stay and chat with the people who watched your coffee get made. You have a good time and an incredible coffee in a setting that is socially distanced, outdoors, and contactless by design.

You're still smiling later that day because something cool and interesting actually happened in your town, and it happened to you.

What further enriches the experience after the fact is hope. I want to use my mobile barista service to give people a reason to believe that things are going to change for the better.

I want to measure my success by how much more of exactly this I can do. I can create meaningful moments and share them with the world. That is the heart of my entire idea. All I have to do is get the cash register out of the way.

I can do that if enough people feel the same way.

There is so much to believe in. So many good things ahead, and I don't want people to give up on the future. I can share that message through my love of making coffee, and I want that to be the basis of my life every day.

So I am looking for the people that think something like this should exist. The souls that do things like pay for the order in line behind them, and want to do more to share that kind of positivity in a novel and inventive way. The kind of people that believe good things and change can happen by believing in them and offering their support.

If I ask enough people that are willing to do for me what I want to do that for others,
anything could be possible. I want to put everything into it. The more support this idea gets, the larger the scale it can have the desired effect. Today, it's in my driveway. Next month, it could be at a farmer's market. Next year, it could be anywhere people could use a boost.

That's what I want to do, and that's how I want to do it. The journey is full of neat little details I would love to include, and there is so much more to add to it. I can't begin to tell you the scope of everything I have in mind for the shape of things to come. The entire realm of possibility begins here, and I want people to get involved.

I need the support of people who want to see this do well and watch it grow along the way to add a drop of hope to the bucket I am trying to fill. This is just the beginning. I'm going to need guidance and insight. I want there to be an open channel of communication- several of them- to hear people's suggestions and feedback on the things I am taking head on. This isn't just the start of serving my community, it is the beginning of building one. For all of the dreamers and coffee lovers, the forward thinkers and giving spirits. For everyone I meet.

I want to write books about it. I want to take pictures everywhere I go and share them with the world. I want to talk to people about what their lives are like, and at the end of the day know I made a small difference in it. And I want you in on it.

Give me that support, and I'll pass it on to others. All I am asking for is a chance to do it, and all I need is a little help to make it happen.
